Day 1: the city
Start at the Castle Museum, Priešpilio g. 2, open 10:00 to 18:00 with tickets until 17:30. It is closed on state holidays. Tickets cost EUR 6 for adults and EUR 3 for reduced fares, and a joint ticket for three History Museum of Lithuania Minor sites is EUR 9. Spend the afternoon in the Old Town, on Theatre Square and along the Danė. Hotels in Klaipėda include the Michaelson Boutique Hotel, Žvejų g. 18A, set in an 18th-century warehouse.
Day 2: Kopgalis and the road to Nida
Cross at E. Galvanausko bul. 1 and spend the first half of the day at the Lithuanian Sea Museum, 1.6 km from the landing. In winter it is open Friday to Sunday only, so time the trip so that this day falls on one of those days. Catch an afternoon bus to Nida, a ride of about 50 km. Buses run roughly every two hours, and the Visit Neringa timetable gives departures. Stay the night in Nida.
Day 3: Nida and Juodkrantė
Walk the Parnidis Dune by its wooden stairs, keeping to marked paths. Visit the Thomas Mann Memorial Museum at Skruzdynės g. 17, which charges about EUR 3. The Russian border lies south of Nida, and the Lithuanian part of the spit ends there, so check your government’s travel advice before you travel. On the way back, get off at Juodkrantė for the Hill of Witches, which is free and always open. If your visit falls between mid-April and mid-October, add the Nagliai Dead Dunes trail, which starts at km 32 of the main road (EUR 5, card only). Return to Klaipėda in the evening.
Day 4: Palanga
Take a bus north. The ride is about 25 km and lasts 25 to 35 minutes, with fares from about EUR 4. The Amber Museum, in the Tiškevičius Palace in Birutė Park, is closed on Mondays and public holidays. A long wooden pier completes the visit.
If you have a car
Drive onto the spit by the New Ferry at Nemuno g. 8 (EUR 23.20 return) and pay the Neringa vehicle fee, which is EUR 10 from 21 August to 19 June and EUR 50 from 20 June to 20 August. Dutchman’s Cap, a cliff of about 24 m, is easy to add on the way to Palanga. See UNIPARK for fee payment.
