Zurich for Couples: Rooftop Spa and Lake Dinner
Couples tend to enjoy Zurich for its slow pleasures: warm water, a boat at dusk, a table with something worth looking at, and a hillside view. Prices are in Swiss francs (CHF).
Soaking on a rooftop
At Hürlimannbad & Spa, old brewery cellars have been turned into thermal pools, and a rooftop pool opens onto the roofs and spires of Enge and the lake beyond. The standard bath ticket is about CHF 42 per adult, and the Roman-Irish ritual about CHF 68. Reservations are required for a time slot. Aim for late afternoon so the lights come on while you are in the water.
Out on the lake in the evening
ZSG boats depart from Bürkliplatz. Timetables are seasonal and thinner when water levels are low, so look at zsg.ch before you plan an evening around one. Dinner sailings, such as fondue or gourmet cruises, must be booked ahead and have been listed at about CHF 65 to 95 per person.
Dining with art on the walls
Kronenhalle (Rämistrasse 4, near Bellevue) has served Zurich since 1924. Its dining rooms hold paintings by Chagall, Miró, Matisse, Picasso and Bonnard, and a lounge bar sits next to them. It is open daily from 12:00 to 24:00. Reserve for dinner. For something older, Zunfthaus zur Waag at Münsterhof 8 is a guild house with views toward the Fraumünster, and it is closed on Sundays.
A hill above the city
Tram to Römerhof, then the Dolderbahn rack railway up to The Dolder Grand. The surrounding Adlisberg woods offer easy paths with views over rooftops and lake. Look up the fare and timetable first.
Quiet corners
Lindenhof terrace is a free, shaded spot with the classic Old Town view. Walk down to the lanes of Schipfe for a drink by the river.
Getting around
Central Zurich counts as two fare zones, so one ticket (about CHF 4.70, rising slightly on 13 December 2026) covers trams between the lake, the old town and Römerhof. Most of the places above are a short tram ride apart, which keeps an evening relaxed.
A simple evening plan
Start with a slow walk from Lindenhof down to the river, take the tram to Bellevue for dinner at Kronenhalle, and finish with a drink in its bar. For a spa evening, reserve the bath slot first and book dinner afterwards at a time that suits the slot.
What to skip in winter
Outdoor baths are shut from autumn, so save swimming for summer and never enter the Limmat or the lake outside an official bath. Strong currents and banned zones make it risky.
Staying
The old-town lanes and lakefront each suit a short stay. For current prices, use this Zurich hotel search , and for restaurant details see zuerich.com .
