Two days: the core and the night view, nothing skipped
Two days is enough for Sapporo’s cheapest, best sights if you don’t split them evenly: Day 1 is the free Odori/Susukino core, Day 2 combines the Mt Moiwa night view with the Beer Museum and Nijo Market. It drops Otaru and the ski/onsen day trips entirely, which belong to the 3-day itinerary and longer. Day 1: Odori, Susukino, and the ramen alley
Fly into New Chitose Airport (CTS) and take the JR Rapid Airport train to Sapporo Station, a fast 37 minutes for 1,430 yen; the shinkansen doesn’t reach Sapporo yet, so don’t plan around a bullet-train option from Honshu. Check into a Sapporo Station or Odori-area hotel, then spend the afternoon walking Odori Park, the free 1.5km green spine of the city, past the TV Tower and Clock Tower. In the evening, head into Susukino for Ramen Yokocho, the alley where Sapporo miso ramen was born, for a 900-1,300 yen bowl. Day 2: Mt Moiwa’s night view, then Nijo Market and the Beer Museum
Spend the morning at Nijo Market, browsing crab, uni, and salmon roe stalls for free or splurging on a kaisendon seafood bowl, then decide on the Sapporo Beer Museum: it now charges 1,000 yen admission as of July 2026, so skip the ticket and just eat Genghis Khan at the attached beer garden if the budget’s tight. Time the Mt Moiwa Ropeway for 1-2 hours before sunset; the ropeway-only round trip runs 1,400 yen and gets you the same night view over the Ishikari Plain as the pricier 2,100 yen combo ticket. A free shuttle bus runs every 15 minutes from the Ropeway Iriguchi streetcar stop.
Is two days enough to see Sapporo properly?
It’s enough to hit the free core and the one paid sight worth the money, Mt Moiwa’s night view, but it skips Otaru, Niseko, and Jozankei entirely. If any of those matter to your trip, the 4-day itinerary is the shortest version that fits Otaru in as well.
Should you skip the Beer Museum on a tight 2-day budget?
Yes, if 1,000 yen matters more than the museum tour. The beer garden and Genghis Khan lunch next door don’t require the admission ticket, and the money is better spent on the Mt Moiwa ropeway, which has no free substitute.
Spend the 1,400 yen on Mt Moiwa before anything else on Day 2; it’s the one sight on this list that can’t be seen for free from ground level.
