Lindos Activities by Land and Sea
A day in Lindos follows a simple pattern: stone in the morning, water in the afternoon, a long dinner at night. The village hangs on the southeast coast of Rhodes, around 50 km from Rhodes Town, and it works as a base for walkers, swimmers and anyone who likes boats. Everything is priced in euros.
Quick facts
- Acropolis ticket: about €20 full, €10 reduced, timed slots. Check hhticket.gr.
- Bus from Rhodes Town: €5.50 one way, stops at Krana Square.
- Sailing from St Paul’s Bay: about €70 for six hours with four swim stops.
- Sea kayak day from Vlycha Beach: from about €140.
- Heat: regularly above 35 C in July and August.
Morning on the Acropolis
Go up before the sun is high. The path runs from the village square over stepped lanes and polished stone, and the climb takes between 10 and 25 minutes. Nothing mechanical helps you: there is no lift or cable car. Sturdy trainers matter more than anything else you pack, because the stone is slick and the summit offers almost no shade. The ruins include a Doric stoa, a propylaea, the Temple of Athena Lindia and sections of the Knights’ castle wall. Book a slot through hhticket.gr , the Ministry of Culture ticket portal, which also shows the opening hours for the month you visit.
Afternoon by the water
Lindos Main Beach and Pallas Beach sit on the village side. St Paul’s Bay, to the south, is smaller and almost closed in, and you step in from rock, so water shoes are worth carrying. Sea urchins live on Aegean rock. Winds called the meltemi can rise after lunch, so look at the flags before you swim.
For something longer, three water options are on offer. Gin Tonic Lindos Sailing sails six hours with four swim stops from St Paul’s Bay, about €70 through resellers. The Melani glass-bottom boat covers Paul’s Bay, the Navarone cliffs and the caves. And Trekking Hellas leads a full-day sea kayak tour called Discover Lindos from Vlycha Beach on Sundays between April and October, which adds a snorkel stop, lunch and time at the archaeological site. Read the tour details here .
Evening in the lanes
After the heat breaks, walk the pebble-mosaic courtyards and look for the bell tower of the Panagia church. Mavrikos has fed visitors since 1933 and is run by the same family, so reserve a table in peak season. Tambakio serves food right on St Paul’s Bay. Many restaurants close for winter.
Reaching Lindos
Cars stop at the edge of the village, in the Krana area, where parking is free in some spots and paid in others. A shuttle runs between the car parks and the village. The KTEL bus takes 1 to 1 hour 45 minutes from Rhodes Town, with several departures a day in summer and fewer in winter. Seats fill up in July and August, and the airport has no direct bus, so change in Rhodes Town.
Safety
Wildfire danger is high from April to October. Follow local guidance and the 112 alerts, and see the UK government travel advice . Bring water everywhere, and plan the climb for early morning or late afternoon. Browse Lindos activities and tickets if you want to book anything in advance.
