Planning a Longer Stay in Göreme
Göreme has no set multi-day tour packages worth singling out, so a longer visit means choosing a base and adding day outings. That works well here, because the main sights are close together.
Arriving
Nevşehir Kapadokya airport (NAV) is served by AJet from Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen and by Turkish Airlines from Istanbul Airport, per Wikipedia . It is roughly 35 to 40 km from Göreme. Kayseri Erkilet airport (ASR) is roughly 75 km away. Long-distance buses also reach the village, and many visitors pre-book a shuttle. Shuttle times are only a guide.
How many days
Three days covers the essentials, and four gives you slack. The slack matters because of the balloons: flights run only when the wind allows, and the regulator can ground the whole region for a morning. Ask for a licensed operator that refunds or rebooks when weather cancels, and treat 2 or 3 mornings as your window.
A sample outline
Day one is for arrival and a short valley walk. Day two is a balloon morning, then the Göreme Open-Air Museum. Day three is a southern day trip to an underground city, the Ihlara Valley and Selime Monastery. Day four, if you have it, is for valley sunset walks through Rose, Red or Pigeon Valley, or for a repeat balloon attempt.
Tickets and timing
The Göreme Open-Air Museum is open daily 08:00 to 17:45, and there is a separate night session from 18:00 to 23:00. Underground cities and other sites keep their own hours, which guides put at about 08:00 to 17:00, and entry fees are paid separately at each. Spread the paid sights across days so that no single day depends on one ticket window, and carry some lira for small purchases. Tour prices often leave entry fees out, so ask before you book.
Where to sleep
Cave hotels are common in Göreme, and many boutique hotels are converted cave houses. Rooms differ, so check what is offered for the exact room before booking. Stay in one hotel for the whole visit to avoid packing every day. Compare options on Booking.com .
What not to add
Coastal and lake trips do not belong on this itinerary. Antalya is a long drive away, and Salda Lake is in Burdur Province, far to the west.
