Port Louis Attraction Tickets and Opening Hours
Visitors to the Mauritian capital buy most attraction tickets at the door. This page collects prices and opening times in one place. Figures are for non-residents in Mauritian rupees (Rs), and residents pay less at most sites.

Odysseo Oceanarium
The oceanarium sits on the harbour waterfront and is built around an ocean tunnel and a series of tanks. Taxis from Caudan Waterfront are short. If you want commentary, resellers list a guided visit at about Rs 250 and an audio guide at about Rs 145, so ask at the desk before you buy.
Blue Penny Museum
This is the one museum in Port Louis where timing matters. The 1847 “Post Office” one penny and two pence stamps are lit for 10 minutes at quarter past each hour, and photography is not allowed in that room. Arrive a few minutes early so you are inside when the lights come on. The museum is also closed from 1 to 3 January and closes at 13:00 on 24 and 31 December.
L’Aventure du Sucre
The sugar museum at Beau Plan, Pamplemousses, adds tastings to the exhibits. The ticket office closes at 15:15, and the museum is shut on Sundays, from 24 to 26 December and from 31 December to 2 January. Families get a discount of 10 percent.
Champ de Mars race meetings
A day at the races is the closest thing to a live event in the city. The Mauritius Turf Club, founded in 1812, runs the 2026 season from 25 April to about late November, with 27 meetings, mostly on weekends. Ask the club about tickets and hospitality, and check the date before you travel.
Private photography museum
The Musee de la Photographie on Rue du Vieux Conseil is privately run. Check its hours and entry fee before you go.
Heritage sites with guided visits
Aapravasi Ghat is a UNESCO World Heritage Site on Quay Street and a memorial to the indentured labourers who landed from 1834. Guided visits are reported to be available on request, so confirm with the Aapravasi Ghat Trust Fund. The Intercontinental Slavery Museum is in the former Military Hospital on Quay Street. Check its opening hours and any entry fee before you travel. Both sites call for a quiet, respectful visit.
Planning notes
- Carry cash for taxis and small purchases.
- The city is quiet on Sundays, so plan museum days from Monday to Saturday.
- Read your government’s current travel advisory before departure.
