Seville Multi-Day Trips: One Base, Three Outings
Staying in one Seville base and venturing out beats changing hotels: the trains are fast, and the old town is the place to come back to at night.
Why a single base works
Santa Cruz and El Arenal put the Alcázar, the Cathedral and the river within a short walk. From there, Córdoba is about 40 to 45 minutes by AVE and Cádiz about 1h35 to 1h45 by direct train. Because the rail network does the work, there is no need for packaged multi-day tours, and none are worth quoting. Compare places to stay on Booking.com for a room that suits you.
Two days in the city
Spend day one on the Alcázar (about €15.50), the Cathedral and Giralda (€13 online) and tapas in Santa Cruz. Spend day two crossing into Triana, visiting Plaza de España and the Parque de María Luisa, and seeing the Setas at dusk (from €16). An evening flamenco show from about €22 closes the day.
Outing one: Córdoba
Take the AVE from Santa Justa, with fares from about €10 and often €20 to €26 on the day. The Mezquita-Catedral costs €15, and details are on mezquita-catedraldecordoba.es .
Outing two: Cádiz and Jerez
Trains for Cádiz leave Santa Justa and San Bernardo stations, with fares from about €16.65. Jerez, on the same line, is about an hour away and offers sherry bodegas. Check timetables on renfe.com .
Outing three: Carmona and Itálica
Carmona is 35 km east, reached by the M-124 bus in about 50 minutes for about €2.80. Itálica is a 20 to 25 minute bus ride from Plaza de Armas and closed on Mondays. Both pair well on a slow day, and timetables are on ctas.es .
Matching the season
Autumn and spring are the easiest months. Summer alerts above 40C are common, so keep outings short and early. Semana Santa 2027 runs from 21 to 28 March, and the Feria de Abril is expected from 13 to 18 April, with the lighting on the night of 12 April. Book rooms and train seats early for those weeks.
Sample five-day order
Days one and two in the city, day three for Córdoba, day four for Cádiz, and day five either at Carmona and Itálica or slowly in the Alfalfa district. A longer stay is better spent on a sixth city day than on Ronda, which has no useful train and needs about two hours each way by bus.
See the four-day itinerary for a structured version, and the attraction tours page for booking detail. Tip: buy the Córdoba train ticket the evening before so you can pick a morning departure.
