Seville Walking Tours: Dawn, Dusk and Markets
A Seville walk needs a clock more than a map: the same street is a pleasure at 09:00, an ordeal at 15:00 and a stage set at 21:00. These routes are timed accordingly.
Morning loop, 09:00 to 12:00: Santa Cruz
Start at Plaza del Triunfo, then follow Callejón del Agua to Plaza de Santa Cruz and Plaza de Doña Elvira. Finish in the Jardines de Murillo. Shade is good, patios glow behind gates, and the tour groups come later. Add the Alcázar (about €15.50) at 09:30 through alcazarsevilla.org if you want a roof over the second half of the morning.
Dusk route, 19:30 onward: river and Triana
Begin at the Torre del Oro and stroll Paseo de Cristóbal Colón past the Real Maestranza bullring. Cross the Puente de Isabel II into Triana and turn onto Calle Betis for views back to the Giralda. Browse the Mercado de Triana and Calle San Jacinto if shops are open. For local context, compare guided walks in Seville with set meeting points.
Thursday route: Alfalfa to Alameda
On Thursday mornings, El Jueves flea market runs along Calle Feria. Reach it from Plaza del Salvador and Calle Sierpes, passing the Setas on Plaza de la Encarnación, then continue to the Alameda de Hércules, where bars and independent shops cluster.
Procession days
During Semana Santa 2027, from 21 to 28 March, the processions turn the old town into a one-way human river. Check routes and times with the city’s tourism office at turismo.sevilla.org . The Feria de Abril is expected from 13 to 18 April, with the lighting on the night of 12 April, and the fairground is a separate walk from the old town.
Pace and shoes
The old town is flat, but the stone is hard. Wear shoes with grip, carry water. In July and August, alerts above 40C make walking from noon to 19:00 hard work.
Moving between routes
Buses and trams charge standard fares, and the TUSSAM tourist card costs €5 for one day and €10 for three days, plus a €1.50 refundable card deposit. Details are on tussam.es .
Street smarts
Say “no, gracias” to anyone offering a free rosemary sprig or a palm reading near the Cathedral. They will demand €5 to €20 afterwards.
See sightseeing details and the three-day itinerary for what to see on each route. Tip: do the Santa Cruz loop first, because by 11:00 its alleys fill up.
