Guided and packaged outings around Shkodër

The outings people actually book from Shkodër fall into four groups: a day on Komani Lake, a day in Theth, a guided look at the old city, and food. Albanian lek (ALL) is the local money, though tour operators usually quote euros. Keep lek in cash for entry desks and small extras.

Komani Lake day package

What it is: a ferry ride through a steep gorge, with an optional side trip up the Shala River.

Berisha Shala River tour from Koman: EUR 20 online or EUR 25 cash, departing 09:30, about 4 hours at the river, mid-April to early November. In low water the boat may stop short of the end.
Berisha one-day tour: about EUR 29 online or EUR 35 cash.
Operators with Shkodër pickup: EUR 26 to 40.
Self-arranged: the Shkodër to Koman minibus costs about EUR 8 each way, plus the tour fare.

Theth day tour

What it is: an 8 hour trip from Shkodër to the Albanian Alps.

Church of Theth, built in 1892, free to enter.
Lock-in Tower (Kulla e Ngujimit), a small entry fee.
Grunas waterfall, a walk of 30 to 45 minutes from the village.
Blue Eye of Theth (Syri i Kaltër), a rough 25 to 30 minute drive from the village, then 1.5 to 2 hours on foot there and back. The water is very cold, so it is for dangling feet rather than swimming.

Expect a 07:00 start and a return shuttle about 17:00.

Before any mountain or ferry outing

Ask the Theth or Koman contact the day before about road and trail conditions.
Start early, carry 2 litres of water and an offline map, and leave your plan with a guesthouse, because phone signal is patchy.
Near the Kosovo border, keep to marked paths. Unexploded mines remain around some hill towns, as the UK safety advice notes.
The Komani ferry runs once a day each way from April to early November. If you miss it, the day is lost.

Old-city circuit

Operators sell a guided Shkodër city day that takes in Rozafa Castle and the old centre. A self-guided version is easy because the castle, the Marubi photography museum and the Lead Mosque all lie within about 2 to 3 km of each other.

Food tour and cooking class

Booking platforms carry one cooking class at roughly CAD 71 per adult for 2 hours, and a garden-dinner food tour. Read the listing for meeting points and menus before you pay.

Memorial museum

The Site of Witness and Memory on Bulevardi Skënderbeu 26 is in a former detention building. It is a short, quiet visit with original cells on the ground floor; reported hours are mornings, closed Sunday.
