Could Grouse Mountain be confused with a Washington State peak?
Not once you know where it sits: Grouse Mountain rises over North Vancouver, British Columbia, part of Canada’s Coast Mountains, not any range in Washington State. Vancouver, Washington, the US city occasionally mixed up with this one, is nowhere near the Coast Mountains or the Skyride gondola at all.
Day 1: Richmond and Steveston, the arrival day
Canada Line from YVR runs about CAD 9.35 total. Richmond’s dim sum runs roughly CAD 15-25 per person before GST and PST land at the till, close to 12% combined. Steveston’s harbour walk is free.
Day 2: The North Shore, free if you pick right
SeaBus to Lonsdale Quay, then Lynn Canyon Park’s free suspension bridge and trails, or Capilano for roughly CAD 79.95 at the gate, booked through capbridge.com for close to 10% off online.
Day 3: Squamish and the Sea to Sky Gondola
About 60km, 45-60 minutes up Highway 99, no passenger rail on this corridor. The Sea to Sky Gondola runs CAD 62-76 online.
Day 4: Victoria and Butchart Gardens, the foot-passenger way
Foot passenger on BC Ferries , roughly CAD 21 one-way against CAD 89 for a vehicle. Budget the full day, 3.5-4 hours each way door to door.
Day 5: Whistler, split the drive
120-125km, about 2 hours up Highway 99, no passenger rail reaches Whistler. Split a rental car three or four ways and the drive runs closer to CAD 10-15 per person than a solo renter pays.
Day 6: Grouse Mountain, the splurge
By Day 6, five cheaper days have left room for one paid mountain experience. The Skyride climbs to a viewpoint over the city and Georgia Strait, roughly CAD 86-89 adult, with a wildlife refuge and lumberjack show at the top. Is the Grouse Mountain Skyride worth CAD 86 to 89?
For most budget itineraries, once, near the end of the trip rather than the start, after the free Stanley Park seawall and Lynn Canyon have already covered the mountain-view and forest experience for nothing. The wildlife refuge and lumberjack show at the summit are the parts a free alternative can’t replicate.
