Vancouver to BC in 4 Days on a Budget
Vancouver to BC in 4 Days: Adding Richmond and Steveston
Four days keeps the 3-day North Shore, Squamish, and Victoria plan and adds the cheapest half-day in this whole family: Richmond and Steveston, better and cheaper dim sum than downtown Chinatown, reached on the Canada Line you already have a fare for. Nests inside the 5-day , 6-day , and 7-day versions.

| Day | Focus | Distance / time from Vancouver | Cheapest cost (CAD) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | North Shore: Lynn Canyon (free) or Capilano | 20-40 min, SeaBus plus bus, or drive | 0-80 |
| Day 2 | Squamish and the Sea to Sky Gondola | About 60km, 45-60 min drive | 62-76 |
| Day 3 | Victoria and Butchart Gardens, BC Ferries | 95 min crossing, 8+ hours door to door | 18-22 foot passenger |
| Day 4 | Richmond and Steveston | 25-30 min Canada Line, 55 min total | 15-25 |
Day 1: The North Shore, free if you pick right
Land at YVR, tap onto the Canada Line, roughly CAD 9.35 total including the YVR AddFare, about 25 minutes downtown. SeaBus across to Lonsdale Quay, then a local bus to Lynn Canyon Park for a free suspension bridge and rainforest trail, or Capilano for roughly CAD 75-80 if the Treetops Adventure and Cliffwalk extras are worth it to you, book through capbridge.com ahead for close to 10% off. Gastown in the evening costs nothing to walk, dinner off Water Street runs CAD 20-35 per person.
Day 2: Squamish and the Sea to Sky Gondola
About 60km and 45-60 minutes up Highway 99, no passenger rail exists on this route. Ride the Sea to Sky Gondola for CAD 62-76 online, and stop free at Shannon Falls or the Stawamus Chief trailhead on the way.
Day 3: Victoria and Butchart Gardens, the foot-passenger way
Go foot passenger on BC Ferries , roughly CAD 18-22 one-way against CAD 60-80 plus a reservation fee for a vehicle. Budget the full day, 3.5-4 hours each way door to door once the terminal drive and city transfer are added to the 95-minute crossing, and pick one of Butchart Gardens or the Royal BC Museum rather than rushing both.
Day 4: Richmond and Steveston, the cheap half-day
Is Richmond worth a day on its own, or just a stopover? For food and a walkable harbour village, it earns the day. Take the Canada Line to Brighouse Station, about 25-30 minutes from downtown, then a further bus or short drive into Steveston, roughly 55 minutes total door to door. Richmond’s dim sum is widely rated ahead of downtown Chinatown’s on both price and quality, a genuinely useful contrarian food tip if you only budget one Chinese-food meal this trip.
Steveston itself adds a working fishing harbour, the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site for anyone who wants a paid indoor stop, and a walkable waterfront that costs nothing beyond a meal. Visit Richmond’s official Steveston page for current hours before you go. This is the lowest-logistics day of the whole trip, no reservation, no gondola ticket, no ferry schedule to plan around.
Where to stay
Downtown or Gastown covers all four nights well, close to the SeaBus, Highway 99, the Tsawwassen ferry connection, and the Canada Line to Richmond. Our guide to where to stay in Vancouver breaks neighbourhoods down by budget tier.
Four days, real numbers
Lynn Canyon over Capilano, foot passenger to Victoria, and a cheap Richmond dim sum lunch keep this trip under roughly CAD 300 per person outside lodging across the four days. The British Columbia day trips guide and the BC travel tips guide both cover more ground if five, six, or seven days are on the table.
