Vancouver to BC in 2 Days: The Cheap Day-Trip Base
Two days from Vancouver covers the North Shore mountains for free, if you pick the right suspension bridge, plus a full day in Squamish on the Sea-to-Sky Highway, for well under CAD 150 per person outside lodging. Victoria and Whistler both eat most of a day just in transit, so this short version skips them; add Victoria on the 3-day plan or go all the way to 7 days for the full BC-base version.

Day 1: The North Shore, free if you pick right
Land at YVR and tap onto the Canada Line, about 25 minutes to downtown for roughly CAD 9.35 total, a CAD 2.85 base fare plus the CAD 6.50 YVR AddFare that only applies leaving the airport, not on the return trip. Cross Burrard Inlet on the SeaBus, about 12 minutes for the same zone fare as the SkyTrain, to Lonsdale Quay, then take a local bus toward Lynn Canyon Park. Its 1912 suspension bridge is shorter and lower than Capilano’s, but it costs nothing to cross, the surrounding rainforest trails cost nothing to walk, and there is no ticket booth at all. Is Lynn Canyon actually worth it over Capilano? For a plain suspension-bridge-and-rainforest walk, yes. Capilano runs roughly CAD 75-80 at the gate for a longer bridge plus the Treetops Adventure and Cliffwalk, extras that justify the price only if you actually want them. Prefer the fuller package? Head back downtown by mid-afternoon and spend the evening walking Gastown’s cobblestone streets for free, the steam clock still chimes on the quarter hour with no admission charge. Dinner a block or two off Water Street runs CAD 20-35 per person and usually beats the souvenir-row prices right on the main strip.
Day 2: Squamish and the Sea to Sky Gondola
Highway 99, the Sea-to-Sky Highway, is the only way to Squamish, there is no passenger rail on this corridor at all. It runs about 60km and 45-60 minutes from downtown by car, whether that is your own rental split between a few people or a shuttle if nobody in your group wants to drive. Do I need a car for this itinerary? Not for Day 1, the SeaBus and local buses handle the North Shore fine, but Day 2 genuinely needs a car, a shuttle seat, or a booked tour, since Squamish has no direct transit link from downtown Vancouver.
Ride the Sea to Sky Gondola for CAD 62-76 booked online, noticeably cheaper than paying at the gate and especially worth locking in during summer, when gate prices sit at the top of that range. The view over Howe Sound from the upper platform is identical whichever way you book it. Free stops on the same stretch of highway: Shannon Falls, a 335-metre waterfall a short walk from a roadside pullout, and the Stawamus Chief trailhead, for anyone who would rather earn a Squamish view on foot than pay for one.
