Couples Guide to Ksamil Beaches and Sunsets
For couples, Ksamil rewards good timing more than a long list of venues. The coast is a working beach village with paid sunbeds, so the calm and the quiet come at the edges of the day and the edges of the season. Prices are in lek (ALL). Most places close from about October to April, so ask whether restaurants are open before you plan a winter dinner.
Start the day in the water
At first light the bay is almost empty and the sea is flat. The nearest islet is about 70 to 100 m from the main bay, and a swim or paddle there before about 10:00 is the calmest the crossing gets. There are no lifeguards, and pedalos, water taxis and motorboats make the channel busy in July and August. Swim together, wear water shoes and keep to the morning. Paddleboard hire is about 1,000 ALL per hour in season.
Sunset above Saranda
Lekuresi Castle looks over Saranda bay toward Corfu. It lies about 18 km north of Ksamil and about 10 minutes by road above the centre of Saranda. Ottoman builders raised it in the 16th century, traditionally in 1537. Entry to the grounds is free. The restaurant on the terrace is built into the walls and keeps its own hours, from afternoon into evening, with mid to upper prices. Reserve a table for sunset. Read the himara.net castle page for more on the setting.
Late-afternoon beach light
After about 16:30 the day-trippers drift off, and the light softens. Two loungers and an umbrella cost about 1,500 to 3,000 ALL at the peak of summer, and some beach bars count that as a minimum spend. If you prefer to pay nothing, part of Paradise Beach is public, and the waterline is open sand. Lori Beach, about 700 m west of the village, has shallow, sheltered water.
Dinner by the water
Order mussels from the lake or grilled fish. Long-established beach-front tavernas, among them Guvat and Abiori, turn up in 2026 guides, though opening hours vary and many close for the winter.
Pick your month
The best months for couples are May, June and September. They bring lower sunbed prices and fewer boats than July and August. Expect about 1,500 to 2,500 ALL a set in June, and about 1,500 to 2,000 ALL from mid to late September.
One quiet daytime outing
Butrint, about 4 km south of the village, has shaded woodland paths and views across the channel. Adults pay 1,000 ALL. Go in the morning, when it is cooler, or later in the day in summer, since last entry is 18:00.
Finding a room
Search places to stay on Booking.com . Check how far each room is from the beach you want.
