Couples Weekend in Tbilisi
Advisory, as of October 2026. British FCDO guidance is to avoid all travel to the Russian-occupied regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia and to make only essential trips close to their boundary lines. Demonstrations against the government have run for more than a year in the centre of Tbilisi, mainly outside the Parliament on Rustaveli Avenue, and have at times turned violent, most often on Saturday evenings and on political anniversaries. Stay away from them. Look at the current FCDO page on Georgia and at travel.state.gov before booking anything.
For two people, Tbilisi works best at a gentle pace: warm water, candlelit tables, a hilltop view and a glass of skin-contact wine. Everything below is within a short taxi ride of Old Town. Amounts are in lari (GEL) from secondary guides, and can change, so check ahead.
Bathing for two
Abanotubani’s sulphur bathhouses let couples book a private tiled room by the hour. The charge is for the room, not per head. Reported ranges:
- Chreli Abano (the Orbeliani Baths): about 130 to 600 GEL, reserved through its website .
- Gulo’s Thermal Spa: about 150 to 300 GEL, by phone or Messenger, and open until about 03:00, which suits a late visit.
- Bath No. 5: private rooms at about 120 to 200 GEL.
- King Erekle’s: roughly 200 to 400 GEL, and the Royal Bath House about 150 to 290 GEL.
An optional kisa scrub is about 15 to 30 GEL in cash, and the water is hot, so drink plenty. The Queen’s Bath is being refurbished and is closed. More on each house is in this bath guide .
Dinner above the city
The funicular from Chonkadze Street climbs Mount Mtatsminda, and the Rustaveli cableway offers an alternative. A park card (about 2 GEL) and about 10 to 12 GEL per ride are needed. At the top, a historic restaurant complex is known for Lagidze fruit sodas and cream-filled pastries, with a view over the lit city. Check opening times on the day. Choose the funicular side on Saturday evenings, because the Rustaveli end can be affected by protests.
Wine after dark
Qvevri wines, aged in buried clay vessels, come out amber. Two places you can try them are Vino Underground at 15 Galaktion Tabidze Street and the cellars of Wine Factory N1 at 1 Petriashvili Street, which is a busy spot in the evenings. Ask staff to recommend a small flight, as prices differ.
The glowing bridge
After dusk, the Bridge of Peace shows off its LED lights. It crosses the Mtkvari from Old Town to Rike Park and is about 150 m long. A slow loop back through the baths district ends the evening.
Overnight in Sighnaghi
If you have a second night, Sighnaghi is about 110 km east, a drive of around 2 hours. It has a walled centre with 23 towers and a broad outlook over the Alazani Valley. Public minibuses from Samgori cost about 10 GEL, though a hired car is easier. Compare rooms with a search for hotels in Tbilisi .
