Family Days in Chișinău: Zoo, Parks and Museums
Before you go (October 2026 advice): The US State Department rates Moldova at Level 2, Exercise Increased Caution, and Transnistria at Level 3, Reconsider Travel (travel.state.gov ). The UK FCDO advises against all travel to Transnistria and gives no warning for the rest of the country (GOV.UK ). Drones from the war in Ukraine have entered Moldovan airspace this autumn, and flights from Chișinău have been disrupted at times. Check with your airline and your government before booking.
Easy Days with Children
Chișinău rewards families with low-cost entry and plenty of open space. Most tickets are quoted in lei, and children’s rates are far below adult rates. Mix one indoor visit with a park each day.
Natural History and Ethnography Museum
Look for the Deinotherium, a huge prehistoric skeleton that the museum calls the only complete one of its species in Europe. The building at Mihail Kogălniceanu 82 also has natural history rooms. Tickets: general 50 MDL, pupils 10 MDL, students 25 MDL. It closes on Mondays and on the last Wednesday of the month, and entry is free on the last Friday. Opening hours are 10:00 to 18:00 in the warm months and 10:00 to 17:00 from November to March. More at muzeu.md .
The Zoo
Roughly 1,000 animals live at Chișinău Zoo. The reported ticket is about 30 MDL for adults and 5 MDL for children, and under-sevens enter free. Opening days are Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 to 19:00. Check prices on the day, as they come from a spring 2026 announcement.
Parks and Playgrounds
- Dendrariu Park (about 78 ha, founded 1973): entry 10 MDL for adults and 5 MDL for pupils and students, parking 10 MDL, open every day 8:00 to 21:00. Its website is dendrariu.md .
- Valea Morilor Park: walking paths, playgrounds and seasonal rowing boats on the lake. Keep children out of the water, as swimming is not advised. Older children enjoy the 218 steps of the Cascade Staircase.
- Central Park: the city’s oldest park, from 1818, with the Alley of Classics.
Estates That Welcome Children
Castel Mimi sets child prices of 180 MDL for ages 0 to 12 and 280 MDL for ages 13 to 17, and its restaurant opens daily from 10:00 to 22:00. Cricova is listed at about 200 MDL for ages 2 to 12 on a partner booking site. Mileștii Mici uses age bands that differ by tour, so ask before booking. The galleries are cool (+12 to +14 C), so everyone needs a jacket. Because tastings are an adult matter, the parent who drives should skip them.
Orheiul Vechi for Active Families
The reserve is 55 km from Chișinău. Cyclists enter with their bikes at no charge, and the short walks are gentle. Adult entry is 20 MDL, and small children go in free. Keep children close near cliff edges.
Practical Tips
- Fares on city transport are 7 MDL, and there is no metro.
