Sunsets, Baths and Terraces for Couples in Málaga
Sunsets, Baths and Terraces for Couples in Málaga
This page lays out a romantic day in Málaga as a sequence, from a quiet garden in the morning to a rooftop view at night. You can take it whole or borrow the parts you like. Seasons matter here: the castle sunset only works in the summer timetable, and the beach end of the evening is best in summer.
Morning: a garden
Start at La Concepción, the historic botanical garden north of the centre. A wisteria pavilion is the spot for a slow coffee or a photo. Tickets cost EUR 5.20 each at the box office, and the garden is closed on Mondays. Take EMT bus 20 to the end of the line and walk about 15 minutes. The garden’s visiting page lists seasonal hours.
Afternoon: Arab baths
Hammam Al Ándalus on Plaza de los Mártires 5, close to the cathedral, has hot, warm and cold pools in an Arab-bath setting. Choose a package and time on the venue’s own booking page, since prices depend on what you pick.
Early evening: Gibralfaro in summer
Between April and October the castle stays open until 20:00, with last entry at 19:00, so you can watch the light fade over the port and the bullring. From November to March it closes at 18:00 and this plan does not work. Tickets are EUR 7 for Gibralfaro alone or EUR 10 with the Alcazaba. Because the path is steep, take bus 35 up, which runs about every 30 minutes, and walk down in daylight. The castle’s price list has the timetable.
Alternative: a sunset sail
Catamarans leave from Muelle Uno, and sunset departures start at about EUR 25. Book ahead in summer, and treat dolphins as a bonus rather than a promise.
Dinner
For a beachside meal, go east to Pedregalejo for espetos, which are sardines threaded on a cane and grilled over wood in a sand-filled boat. Guides give about EUR 2 to 4.50 per skewer. Walk the promenade afterwards. If you would rather stay in town, Antigua Casa de Guardia, on Alameda Principal 18 since 1840, pours sweet wine from a wall of barrels, and the AC Hotel Málaga Palacio terrace on the 15th floor of Cortina del Muelle 1 looks across the cathedral, port and sea. Its hours run from about 12:30 to midnight and later at weekends, so check them first.
Practical notes for two
- Pickpockets work the port and Calle Larios, so keep bags closed.
- Wear sturdy shoes at the castle and in the garden.
- Away from the beach, cover up, because walking in the street naked or in underwear is banned.
