Multi-Day Trips From Verona to Veneto and Garda
Multi-Day Trips From Verona
Three- and four-night plans work well from Verona because it sits at a rail junction. The routes below suggest how long to allow and what to book early. Check timings on Trenitalia, as these are approximate.
Plan 1: Veneto art cities, 3 to 4 days
Use Verona as a base and take train rides out:
- Vicenza. About 25 minutes by Frecciarossa or 34 to 39 minutes by regionale veloce. Palladian buildings and the 1585 Teatro Olimpico are the main stops.
- Padua. The Scrovegni Chapel requires a booked slot, so reserve it first and plan the rest of the day around it.
- Venice. About 1 hour 10 minutes from Verona to Santa Lucia by Frecciarossa or Italo; about 1 hour 30 on a regionale veloce.
Reserve one full day in Verona for the Arena and Castelvecchio. Castelvecchio and the Arena are both closed on Mondays.
Plan 2: Lake Garda and Monte Baldo, 3 days
Spend one night in Peschiera or Sirmione, then head up the lake to Malcesine. The cable car to 1,760 m is listed at about 30 EUR (28 online); the operator’s page does not make clear whether the fare is one way or return, so ask when booking. Its 2026 summer season ran from 4 April to 1 November, so confirm the 2027 dates at funiviedelbaldo.it . Allow about 40 minutes by car from Verona to Sirmione, since there is no direct train.
Plan 3: Trentino by VeronaCard
Rovereto’s MART, Casa Depero, the Castello del Buonconsiglio in Trento and MUSE are free with the VeronaCard (33 EUR for 24 hours, 38 EUR for 48 hours). Each site can be entered once. See the official terms . Paper voucher holders must exchange them at the information office on Via Leoncino 61 by 31 March 2027.
Plan 4: Dolomites, 2 to 3 days
Treat this as its own trip, not an add-on to Verona. No rail line runs into Val Gardena. Bolzano is about 2 hours by train from Verona and the rest of the route continues by bus. Seceda and Alpe di Siusi are reached by lift, and times and prices should be checked with the operators.
Parking and base tips
If you hire a car, avoid the ZTL: it admits vehicles only with a booked permit, and the notified fine is about 98.50 EUR. Parcheggio Centro (Via Campo Marzo) and Parcheggio Cittadella (Piazza Cittadella) sit outside it, though lots fill on show nights. Rail travellers can skip the car and stay near Porta Nuova.
