Planning a Long Stay in the Upper Engadin
A longer stay in St. Moritz gives you time for the lifts, the train and a few slow hours by the lake. What you can do depends on the date, because the town runs two distinct seasons with a quiet gap between them. The plans below only use attractions that are open in the season named. Prices are in Swiss francs (CHF).
Four days in summer
Day 1, arrival and lake. Walk the path around Lake St. Moritz, which takes about an hour.
Day 2, Corvatsch. Ride up to 3,303 m. A summer return costs CHF 64, and the Surlej to Murtel section alone costs CHF 46.
Day 3, Bernina line. Take the train to Tirano in Italy, about 2 h 15 min to 2 h 30 min each way. Carry a passport or ID. A panoramic seat is about CHF 32 each way.
Day 4, Sils and Muottas Muragl. In the morning take the Lake Sils boat from Sils Maria to Maloja, about 40 minutes. In the afternoon ride the Muottas Muragl funicular (CHF 42.50 return) and stay for supper, since it runs until 23:00 in season.
Summer hotel guests can ask whether their property joins the Mountain Railways Included offer. In 2026 it ran from 1 May to 31 October for stays of two nights or more at more than 100 partners and covered 13 lifts. Dates for 2027 are not yet out.
Four days in winter
Day 1, snow day. Ski at Corviglia and Piz Nair. Season-pass holders get an early start at Corviglia on 27 November 2026. Because the funiculars to Corviglia were overhauled in 2026, check mountains.ch for their winter status.
Day 2, sled run. Ride up to Muottas Muragl and sled the 4.2 km run, about CHF 43 per descent.
Day 3, ice. From 22 December 2026 you can book an Olympia Bob Run guest ride at CHF 269 per person through olympia-bobrun.ch . On a Friday from 4 December, ski the floodlit Corvatsch piste in the evening.
Day 4, frozen-lake event. Snow Polo World Cup runs 22 to 24 January 2027, and White Turf racing runs on 7, 14 and 21 February 2027, with family days the day before each. The Engadin Skimarathon is on 14 March 2027. Follow the marked paths and closures on the lake ice.
Where the museums fit
Add museum visits only in season. The Museum Engiadinais reopens on 6 December 2026, the Segantini Museum on 10 December 2026, and the Berry Museum winter season begins on 14 December 2026.
The quiet gap
From late October into late November, Diavolezza is the main lift still running, and only until 15 November. OVAVERVA in St. Moritz Bad is open all year, and the trains keep going. A few days then is a rail and walking holiday rather than a mountain one.
