Pomoravlje District with Kids
Travelling with children in Pomoravlje District means choosing between indoor stops, a cold cave and a summer water park. The best days combine one big attraction with a lighter second stop. Costs below are in Serbian dinars (RSD), and opening times are worth checking before every trip.
Best for all ages: the Natural History Centre
Svilajnac is home to the Natural History Centre of Serbia, which has a dino park with life-size dinosaur replicas. Entry is free for under 3s. Children from 3 to 12 pay 550 RSD, adults pay 850 RSD, and pensioners and students pay 600 RSD.
A family ticket starts at 2,100 RSD for two adults and one child and reaches 3,300 RSD for two adults and four children. The last entry is an hour before closing, and summer opening times in July and August may run later. The centre’s ticket page lists the current prices.
Best for school-age children: Resava Cave
A tour of Resava Cave suits children who can walk about 800 m on steps and keep to a path. Under-7s pay only 50 RSD, while students and pupils pay 650 RSD and adults pay 700 RSD. Tours depart at 08:30 and every 45 minutes until 15:30.
Prepare children in advance. The guide expects them not to touch the formations, leave the path, use a flash or smoke. Cold air and damp floors mean warm clothes and closed shoes, not sandals. Operator details are on the cave’s page .
Outdoor stop: Veliki Buk
The Veliki Buk waterfall at Lisine is about 20 m high and lies about 20 km east of Despotovac. It is a protected natural monument, so children should stay on the paths.
In and around Jagodina
- Jagodina Zoo lies in the Đurđevo Brdo park, about 2 km from the centre, and is described as Serbia’s second zoo. Animal-welfare groups have criticised conditions there, so consider whether it suits your family.
- Wax museum: billed as the first in Serbia, with about 28 to 30 figures.
- Aqua Park Jagodina runs in summer only and is a separate site from the zoo.
- Museum of Naive and Marginal Art: Tuesday to Friday 10:00 to 18:00, Saturday 10:00 to 16:00 and Sunday 10:00 to 15:00.
Practical tips
Keep the water park for a hot summer afternoon and the cave and centre for a wet day. Many signs outside towns are in Cyrillic only, so a phone map helps on the drive.
