Cave, Museum and Monastery Visits in Pomoravlje
Pomoravlje District has a small set of ticketed attractions: a show cave, a natural history park, a mining museum and two medieval monasteries. This page explains which visits need a guide, what the tickets cost in Serbian dinars (RSD) and how organised tours fit them together.
Which visits need a guide
- Resava Cave: a guide is mandatory. You join a group and walk the route together.
- Natural History Centre of Serbia: entry is self-guided, and a guide service is available at 2,000 RSD according to the official price list.
- Manasija and Ravanica: these are active monasteries, so visits are quiet and respectful.
- Senjski Rudnik museum: the mining complex is in Senje, and check opening times before you go.
Resava Cave in detail
The cave lies in the village of Jelovac, 21 km from Despotovac and 152 km from Belgrade. Tours leave at 08:30 and then at 45 minute intervals, and the last group goes in at 15:30. Visiting hours run from 08:00 to 16:00. Tickets cost 700 RSD for adults, 650 RSD for students and pupils and 50 RSD for children under 7. A typical tour covers about 800 m of walkway. Guides stress four rules: no touching the formations, no leaving the path, no flash photography and no smoking.
In winter, call 035/611-110 before you drive out. The operator’s page also posts notices when the access road is shut for military exercises.
Natural History Centre prices
At the centre in Svilajnac, adults pay 850 RSD, children aged 3 to 12 pay 550 RSD, pensioners and students pay 600 RSD, and children under 3 are free. Family tickets run from 2,100 RSD for two adults and one child to 3,300 RSD for two adults and four children. The ticket page lists current prices. The dino park displays life-size dinosaur replicas.
Monasteries as visits
Manasija is 2 km northwest of Despotovac. Its ring of towers and walls is being restored, with work due to finish by 2027. Ravanica stands in Senje and holds the grave of Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović. Wear modest clothes with covered shoulders and knees, and ask before taking pictures in any church.
Senjski Rudnik
The coal mining museum in Senje opened on 1 May 1982. Its complex includes Aleksandar’s adit, an administrative building, workshops and a steam engine from 1874. The village also has Ravanica, so the two stops fit into one morning or afternoon.
Organised day tours
Operators in Belgrade list day tours that link Manasija, Resava Cave and Veliki Buk, which makes for a long day by road. Compare what is included, especially cave entry, and check that the tour matches the cave hours above.
