Sinaia Sightseeing From Park to Plateau
Sinaia’s sights run from the town, at roughly 770 to 1,055 m, up to the Bucegi plateau above 2,000 m. This page follows that climb, starting with what can be seen for free and ending with what needs a lift. Prices are in Romanian lei.
Free to see from outside
Peleș Castle and its Italian Renaissance terraces can be seen from the grounds even when the interior is closed, which it is on Monday and Tuesday and during yearly conservation closures. In 2026 that closure runs from 2 November to 1 December. Pelișor, next door, is closed from 28 September to 3 November that year. Foișor, the former hunting lodge and birthplace of King Michael I, is used by the state and cannot be entered.
The Casino stands in Dimitrie Ghica Park, which was laid out in 1881. Its Neo-Romanian facade, designed by Petre Antonescu, is a pleasant sight from the lawns, alongside the chestnut trees and the bust of George Enescu.
Inside the castles
Peleș was begun in 1873 and finished in 1914 as King Carol I’s summer palace. Its carved walnut Hall of Honor, Arms Room and Royal Library are the highlights of the 100 lei ticket. Pelișor, built between 1899 and 1902 for Ferdinand and Marie, charges 30 lei and is known for the Golden Chamber in gilded sycamore wood. Tickets are timed and sold at bilete.peles.ro.
Religious and musical sites
Sinaia Monastery was founded in 1695 by Prince Mihail Cantacuzino, and it lent its name to the town. The Old Church is from 1695 and the Great Church was built in the 1840s and enlarged around 1900. Visitors should dress modestly. The Enescu Memorial House in the Cumpătu quarter shows the composer’s piano and papers on Wednesday to Sunday, from about 09:00 to 16:00.
The high viewpoints
Cota 2000 is reached by the Telecabina Sinaia to Cota 1400 and then the Gondola Carp. Babele, at 2,216 m, and the Sphinx are within walking distance on marked trails, and Omu Peak rises to 2,505 m. The Telecabina Sinaia is running, but the newer Cota 1000 to Cota 1400 gondola is closed, so expect waits. Lifts halt in wind, fog and frost, so go on a clear morning. Dress for the weather at altitude: boots, a windproof layer and, in any season, warm clothes.
Wildlife note
Bears use the forests and sometimes the roadside near Sinaia. Never feed or approach them. Fines for feeding start at 10,000 lei.
