Sousse for Couples: Spa Stays and Sunsets
Read the current US State Department and UK FCDO advice for Tunisia before booking; some border and military areas are off limits to tourists. Sousse lies outside every FCDO warning zone, but security checks at hotels and tourist sites are normal.
Sousse is better for slow, warm days than for big romantic gestures. Think spa mornings, rooftop terraces and long walks at dusk.
Sea-water spas
Two resorts stand out in 2026 listings. Mövenpick Resort & Marine Spa Sousse sits on the beach along Boulevard du 14 Janvier and has a thalassotherapy centre. Hasdrubal Thalassa & Spa Port El Kantaoui offers an indoor sea-water pool and spa. Ask the hotel for couples’ treatment options and current prices, and book ahead for summer weekends.
Sleep in the Medina
For a change from resorts, Dar Antonia is a four-room courtyard guesthouse inside the old walls. Listings mention a tiled courtyard with a fountain, a rooftop terrace, a steam room, a library and a seasonal pool open May to October. Guests disagree about whether it serves dinner, so ask before you arrive.
A view over the rooftops
After a morning at the Ribat, walk up to the Kasbah garden, which looks out across the Medina and the port. The Archaeological Museum here closes on Mondays, so plan around it.
Sunset by the sea
The Corniche beside Plage Boujaafar is at its prettiest when the light drops. Walk a little way past the beach, find a bench and let the evening go by. The marina at Port El Kantaoui is quieter and car free.
A cliff-top afternoon
Hergla, about 24 km north-west, has white houses with blue doors, an old mosque and a lagoon where flamingos and other migratory birds gather at certain times of year. A taxi or louage gets you there, and you can return before dark.
When to go
Spring and autumn give warm days and mild evenings, which suit the Medina, the Kasbah garden and the cliffs at Hergla. Winter is quieter, with cooler sea air and fewer spa guests, while high summer is busy and hot. If you are travelling in July or August, ask whether your spa slot is early or late in the day.
Good to know
- Away from the beach, cover up a little, since Tunisia is a Muslim-majority country.
- Summer is very hot. Plan walks for the cooler start and end of the day.
- Take Tunisian dinars (TND) for small bills and keep exchange slips.
