Tsaghkadzor Sightseeing: Churches, House and Summit
Tsaghkadzor packs a surprising amount into a small area: a group of medieval churches, a scientist family’s house, a mountain lookout and some quirky modern stops. Allow a full day to see them without rushing. Current Armenia advice is at gov.uk and travel.state.gov.

Kecharis Monastery
Set among trees on a hillside in the north of the town, Kecharis is a cluster of four churches with a gavit and chapels, built between the 11th and 13th centuries. St Grigor and Surp Nshan are 11th century, the latter rebuilt in 1223 according to an inscription. Katoghike dates from 1203 to 1214. Founder Grigor Magistros Pahlavuni began the complex, and restoration work has since been carried out.
Treat it as a living church complex: cover shoulders and knees, and speak quietly. Hours are not published, so visit in daylight. A short walk west through the forest brings you to Surp Harutyun, a small church from 1220 standing alone in a clearing. Background on the buildings is on Wikipedia .
Orbeli Brothers House-Museum
Levon (Leon) Orbeli, a physiologist, was born in this house at Orbeli Brothers Street 12, which became a museum in 1972. About 2,000 exhibits fill a scientific section and a memorial hall. The family also produced Hovsep (Joseph), an orientalist and director of the Hermitage, and Ruben, founder of Soviet underwater archaeology.
