Two and Three Day Plans for Tsaghkadzor

Travel advice, 31 October 2026: UK FCDO guidance applies to parts of Armenia only, namely everything within 5 km of the eastern border with Azerbaijan and the M16/H26 road between Ijevan and Noyemberyan. The US rates Armenia Level 2 and warns against the Azerbaijan border region. Tsaghkadzor, Lake Sevan and Dilijan are outside those areas. Read gov.uk and travel.state.gov before you leave, avoid night driving in the mountains and expect poor road surfaces in winter.

A stay in Tsaghkadzor of two or three nights gives you time for the town, the ropeway and one outing. The options below are outlines to adapt, not packages.

Option 1: ski weekend (mid-December to March)

  1. Day one. Reach Tsaghkadzor from Yerevan (about 55 km). In the afternoon, visit the Orbeli Brothers House-Museum and the Yengibarov statue.
  2. Day two. Spend the day on the lifts, which run 10:00 to 17:30. Check ropeway.am for the opening date, since no 2026-27 date had been announced by the end of October 2026. A one-day card is 12,000 AMD.
  3. Day three. Drive the 22 to 25 km to Lake Sevan, or go straight back to Yerevan.

Option 2: summer in the mountains

Spend the first day on the chairlifts and the zipline. Keep the second for the walk to Kecharis and its glade church. Use any third day for Lake Sevan, remembering that the water is cool to cold and winds arise suddenly, so do not plan around swimming.

Option 3: Kotayk and Gegharkunik loop

This is a drive from Tsaghkadzor to Sevan, on to Dilijan, then back to Yerevan or along the Sevan road. Dilijan is about 60 km from Tsaghkadzor, an hour or a little more. Keep to main roads, return before dark and avoid the Ijevan to Noyemberyan road. One night in Dilijan breaks the drive well.

Option 4: autumn chess

The Tsaghkadzor Open is an international chess tournament held each autumn, with 2025 dates of 21 to 28 September. It is aimed at players, not visitors, so do not treat it as a tour.

Packing for the mountains

Even in summer the top of the lift is far colder than the valley, so carry a windproof layer. In winter temperatures at the summit are well below freezing. Wear shoes with grip for all the walking between sights.
