Couples in Lindos: Bay, Sails and Dinner
Lindos gives couples a ready-made schedule: sights while it is cool, a swim when it is warm, a sail or a long dinner as the day ends. The village lies on the southeast coast of Rhodes, below an ancient acropolis, and its lanes are closed to cars, which helps. The timeline below puts the romantic highlights in order. Prices are in euros.
Morning: have the Acropolis nearly to yourselves
Arrive soon after opening, since summer opening is about 08:00. The climb from the village square takes 10 to 25 minutes over stepped, polished stone, and there is no lift. Wear shoes with grip. Tickets cost about €20 full price and about €10 reduced, and slots are timed, so check hhticket.gr for the closing time, which falls between 17:00 and 20:00 depending on the month.
Afternoon: swim at St Paul’s Bay
The bay is small, almost enclosed and edged by a chapel, Agios Pavlos, a popular wedding setting. Access is free, and local legend says Saint Paul landed here. You enter the water from rock, so bring water shoes, and look at the flags before swimming, as the meltemi wind can rise later in the day. Tambakio, the beach restaurant on the bay, is a relaxed place for a late lunch or a drink. Sunbeds cost extra.
Late afternoon: a sunset sail
Sunset and aperitivo style sailing trips are sold by local operators from the bay. Gin Tonic Lindos Sailing sails a six-hour trip with four swim stops for about €70 through resellers. Choose a late departure and book in advance during summer. Current departures are listed under sunset sailing in Lindos .
Evening: dinner
Mavrikos is a family restaurant founded in 1933, and booking ahead is smart in peak months. Afterwards, wander the pebble-mosaic lanes below the Acropolis. Many places in Lindos are seasonal, so confirm opening before you plan a particular night.
A room with a view
Two boutique stays are worth a look. Melenos Lindos is an art boutique hotel, and Lindos Blu is a clifftop resort at Vlycha Bay with infinity pools. Compare rooms on Lindos hotel listings . Cars stop at the edge of the village in the Krana area, so you walk in, and a shuttle links the car parks with the lanes.
Getting there and staying cool
The KTEL bus from Rhodes Town takes 1 to 1 hour 45 minutes and costs €5.50 one way; see ktelrodou.gr . July and August are hot, with afternoons regularly above 35 C. From April to October the wildfire risk is high, and the UK government advice asks visitors to follow local guidance and respond to 112 alerts.
