Koblenz Day Trips by Train, Bus and Car
Choose the trip by transport
Koblenz Hauptbahnhof is the starting point for most trips, and the Rheinland-Pfalz-Ticket is a day pass for regional trains that suits a day of hopping between towns. The notes below group the trips by how you get there.
By regional train
Boppard. The RB26 reaches Boppard in about 15 minutes. The town lies on the largest bend of the Rhine and keeps Roman fort walls from the 4th century. A chairlift runs up to the Vierseenblick, where the bend of the river appears as separate lakes. Confirm the lift’s season before you travel.
Andernach. A short regional train ride leads to Geysir Andernach on Konrad-Adenauer-Allee. The combined ticket for the discovery centre, the boat trip and the eruption costs 21.50 EUR for adults, 17.50 EUR reduced and 12.50 EUR for children up to 16. The 2026 season closed on 31 October for the winter. The ticket page shows boat slots.
Cochem. Regional trains run along the Moselle to the town, which sits under the neo-Gothic Reichsburg of the 1870s. Check the timetable for the train you need.
Braubach and Marksburg. The right-bank line is shut for works from 10 July to about 12 December 2026. Once it reopens, the train to Braubach is followed by a steep climb to the castle.
By bus and on foot
Burg Eltz. Take a train to Hatzenport, then VRM bus 365 to Parkplatz 1, which runs about every 30 minutes daily from 1 April to 1 November. A shuttle covers the last stretch for 2 EUR, paid in cash, or you can walk down. Another approach is the 2.5 km walk from the Ringelsteiner Mühle at Moselkern, about 35 minutes. The castle was open daily from 09:30 to 17:00 between 29 March and 1 November 2026. It then closes until about late March 2027. The Burg Eltz site has the opening dates.
Schloss Stolzenfels. Bus 670 from the main station goes to Schlossweg, about 5 km south, and a 20-minute uphill walk follows. The castle is shut in December and January.
By car
Maria Laach. The Benedictine abbey stands on the Laacher See in the Vulkaneifel, about 30 minutes from Koblenz by car. The church is free to enter, the lake path is a pleasant walk, and gas bubbles rise at the eastern shore.
Eltz by car. Parking at Burg Eltz costs 4 EUR, and the shuttle runs from the car park.
