Attraction Tours: Beqa, Navua and Namosi
Six Tours Worth Knowing
Fiji’s Central Division offers a handful of organised tours, nearly all of them out of Pacific Harbour and Navua. Prices are in Fijian dollars (FJ$), and larger operators may add a 5 percent Tourism Services Tax from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027. VAT is 12.5 percent.
1. Jewel of Fiji, Navua River
Discover Fiji Tours (+679 905 0902) is based in Navua. Its tours include the Jewel of Fiji, a Fijian village tour, river canoeing, the Magic Waterfall and bamboo rafting. The Jewel of Fiji meets at Naitata Road in Navua, with about 45 minutes in a longboat upriver and about 30 minutes in the water at the falls. A bamboo raft, a village visit and a lovo lunch round out the day. A lovo is a feast cooked in an earth oven. Ask for the current price, days and child fare, and note that some resellers list in AUD.
2. Upper Navua Gorge, Rivers Fiji
A full-day Class II to III raft trip, around FJ$440 to 460 with lunch. The conservation area, 615 hectares, was designated Fiji’s first Ramsar wetland on 11 April 2006. Many waterfalls drop into the gorge, which is 5 to 25 m wide and about 75 m deep according to Ramsar. Rivers Fiji describes walls over 40 m. Go with the company’s guides and ask about river levels after heavy rain.
3. Damodar Arts Village
On Hibiscus Drive in Pacific Harbour, the village reopened in October 2025 after redevelopment. The “Echoes of Fiji” show includes meke, Beqa firewalking, a kava ceremony and a recreated island village. The Island Tour is a heritage walk. Phone +679 229 9049 for dates and prices. Firewalking is a ceremony of the Sawau tribe of Beqa, so treat it with respect.
4. Beqa Lagoon Snorkelling
Beqa Adventure Divers lists snorkelling at FJ$100 for non-divers. Ask the operator about departures. The shark dive itself is scuba for certified divers, and nobody swims or snorkels during the feeding.
5. TerraTrek Fiji Buggies
TerraTrek, at 763 Nokonoko Circle in Pacific Harbour, runs self-drive 4WD buggy tours in the hills. Plan on 4 to 5 hours, with a picnic lunch. Drivers must hold a licence and be 17 or older.
6. Namosi Highlands
The village-run Namosi Eco Retreat at Navunikabi, on the Luva River, is the usual way in. It is about 2 hours by road from Suva, and activities include walks and horse riding. Confirm everything directly.
Village Manners
Dress modestly with covered shoulders and knees, remove hats and sunglasses, and never touch a head. Clap once and say “bula” when you receive the bilo, or kava cup. A sevusevu is a gift of kava root to the chief, and guides usually deal with it. Kava can affect the liver.
