Day Trip Ideas from Suva and Pacific Harbour
Starting Points
Suva and Pacific Harbour are the two bases for day trips in Central Division. Pacific Harbour lies 45 to 60 minutes west of Suva on the Queens Road, past Navua town, and it opens up the lagoon and the river valleys. Prices are in Fijian dollars (FJ$).
Quick Comparison
- Colo-i-Suva: about 20 minutes from central Suva; half a day.
- Navua River and Magic Waterfall: a full day from Pacific Harbour.
- Beqa shark dive: a morning dive for certified divers.
- Upper Navua rafting: the longest day, about 06:45 to 18:00.
- Beqa Island: boat from Pacific Harbour, by arrangement.
Colo-i-Suva Forest Park
Princes Road takes you to the pools in about 20 minutes. Overseas adults pay about FJ$5 and children about FJ$1. Rangers are on site, and a guided walk is recommended. Go during daylight, bring a companion, stay on the main paths, carry little and give up your valuables if threatened. The park closed after heavy rain in May 2026, so ask whether it has reopened before you leave.
Navua River and the Magic Waterfall
This is the easiest full day from Pacific Harbour. Discover Fiji Tours collects guests and meets at Naitata Road in Navua. Expect about 45 minutes in a longboat upriver, a 30 minute swim, a bamboo raft ride, a village stop and a lovo lunch. Call +679 905 0902 to learn the current price.
Beqa Shark Dive
Certified divers can join Beqa Adventure Divers from the Pacific Harbour base on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday mornings. Two tanks cost FJ$500, and levy plus fuel bring it to about FJ$545 before gear. Read the operator’s requirements first. Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva has Fiji’s only recompression chamber, which is not always working, so divers should carry diving and evacuation insurance.
Upper Navua Rafting
Rivers Fiji runs a Class II to III trip for about FJ$440 to 460 with lunch. Extra transport from Suva is around FJ$50. Children from about 8 can go. Expect an early start.
Beqa Island
Boats cross from Pacific Harbour, and the island has no roads. A resort such as Beqa Lagoon Resort can arrange access, so confirm the details with it. Beqa firewalking is a ceremony of the Sawau tribe, and village visits depend on arrangements.
A Note on Levuka
Levuka is in the Eastern Division and holds Fiji’s first UNESCO World Heritage listing, from 2013. A bus and ferry journey takes 4 to 4.5 hours each way, so it makes a separate overnight trip, not a day out of Suva.
Transport and Weather
Nausori Airport is roughly 19 to 23 km from central Suva, which means 30 to 60 minutes by taxi. Heavy rain on the wet windward side can flood roads. Rip currents run along reefs and river mouths, so choose licensed operators.
