Couples Escapes: Beqa Lagoon and Suva
Setting Expectations
Suva is a working capital, not a honeymoon beach. The romantic side of Central Division is out on Beqa Lagoon and around Pacific Harbour, with one grand hotel in Suva itself. Rates and shows below are for you to confirm with each host. Prices are in Fijian dollars (FJ$) unless stated.
Island Luxury: Royal Davui
Royal Davui occupies Ugaga Island in Beqa Lagoon, only about 8 acres. It has 16 villas with plunge pools, and guests must be 16 or older, which makes it adults only in effect. Nightly rates start at about USD 900. Ask the resort about boat transfers.
Beach Bures: Beqa Lagoon Resort
Guests stay in bures, thatched Fijian cottages, on Beqa Island. There are no roads or cars on the island, so the pace is slow. The resort runs dive packages, and firewalking is staged on site. Contact the resort for rates and crossing times from Pacific Harbour.
Heritage Tea: Grand Pacific Hotel
The hotel on Victoria Parade in Suva first opened on 23 May 1914, closed in 1992 and reopened in May 2014. Visitors can take high tea in the Victoria Lounge or walk across to Albert Park, where Charles Kingsford Smith landed the Southern Cross in 1928. Ask the hotel for its current tea price.
A Quiet River Lodge: Namosi Eco Retreat
Village-run and off-grid, with solar power and 10 refurbished bures, the retreat stands at Navunikabi on the Luva River. The drive from Suva takes about 2 hours, and guests cross the river on foot. Confirm availability and activities directly with the retreat.
An Evening Show: Damodar Arts Village
At the village in Pacific Harbour, on Hibiscus Drive, the cultural show includes meke and Beqa firewalking, and the Starlight Cinema offers film in the open air. The village reopened in October 2025. Call +679 229 9049 for times and prices.
Planning the Trip
- Pacific Harbour lies 45 to 60 minutes from Suva by road, and Beqa needs a boat on top of that.
- The Pearl South Pacific and Nanuku are mainland resorts in Pacific Harbour.
- Cyclone season normally runs from 1 November to 30 April, though cyclones can occur at any time.
- Larger operators may add a 5 percent Tourism Services Tax from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027, and VAT is 12.5 percent.
