Kid Friendly Outings in Suva and Navua
Outings by Age and Energy
Central Division is better for curious or active children than for sandcastle holidays. Suva is the working capital, and the family days are museums, river trips and forest pools. Prices are in Fijian dollars (FJ$). A 5 percent Tourism Services Tax may be added by larger operators from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027.
For Any Age
Fiji Museum and Thurston Gardens. Open 09:00 to 16:30 every day at Cakobau Road, Suva. Overseas children aged 2 to 15 pay FJ$10, and adults FJ$20. Ratu Finau, a 13-metre double-hulled drua built in the early 1900s, is the star. Also on show are the HMS Bounty rudder and archaeology from about 3,700 years ago. Entry to the gardens is free, and there is room to run. Phone +679 331 5944 and check opening, as a gallery renovation was reported nearly complete in March 2026.
Damodar Arts Village. In Pacific Harbour, on Hibiscus Drive, with meke dancing, Beqa firewalking and an open-air Starlight Cinema. Ask about times and prices.
For Water Lovers
Navua River. Discover Fiji Tours lists bamboo rafting, river canoeing and the Magic Waterfall. An adult must accompany children. Phone +679 905 0902 for child fares.
Colo-i-Suva pools. The creek-fed pools charge about FJ$1 for an overseas child and FJ$5 for an adult. The ground is slick near the rope swings, so children need proper footwear and an adult within arm’s reach. Visit in daylight with a group, stay on the main paths and do not fight back if someone demands your bag. The park closed after heavy rain in May 2026, so check that it is open.
For Older, Active Children
Upper Navua Gorge. Rivers Fiji accepts children from about age 8 on its Class II to III raft trip, about FJ$440 to 460 with lunch. The day lasts from about 06:45 to 18:00 and calls for stamina. Check river levels after heavy rain.
Not for Young Children
- The Beqa shark dive requires certified divers.
- TerraTrek buggies require drivers aged 17 or over.
Practical Notes
Carry cash for market stalls. Shops and offices in Suva mostly close on Sunday, but big hotel restaurants stay open. Dangerous rip currents run along reefs and river mouths, so book water trips with fully licensed operators. Cyclone season normally runs from 1 November to 30 April, and heavy rain brings flooding and landslides.
