Central Division Fiji Activities at a Glance
The Short List
These are the activities worth planning around in Fiji’s Central Division, which stretches from Suva down to Pacific Harbour and across to Beqa Island. All prices are in Fijian dollars (FJ$), roughly FJ$2.15 to 2.25 for one US dollar.
- Shark dive, Beqa Lagoon: certified divers only, two tanks, mornings.
- Rafting, Upper Navua Gorge: a full day, Class II to III.
- Swimming pools, Colo-i-Suva: a short ride from Suva.
- Fiji Museum: open daily in Thurston Gardens.
- Suva Municipal Market: produce, kava and crafts, closed Sundays.
- Damodar Arts Village: meke and firewalking in Pacific Harbour.
Which Places Are Not Here
Nadi, Denarau, Sigatoka, Lautoka and the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands are in the Western Division. The Queens Road coach from Nadi takes 3.5 to 4 hours and covers about 197 km, so do not count on a quick hop between the two coasts. Sunbeam and Pacific Transport run the coaches; check the operator for fares.
Diving With Sharks
Beqa Adventure Divers, on Fairway Place in Pacific Harbour, charges FJ$500 for the shark dive, run on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings. A reserve levy of FJ$25 and a fuel charge of FJ$20 bring the day to about FJ$545 before you rent gear at FJ$30 per item or FJ$50 for the full set. Bull sharks are the species you are most likely to see, alongside others. The animals are fed, a practice that conservationists argue about, and the operator puts the levy toward reef wardens and research. Divers should read the operator’s requirements. Wednesdays and Sundays are soft coral or wreck dives at FJ$475.
Rafting the Gorge
Rivers Fiji takes rafts down the Upper Navua Gorge in a full-day trip of about 25 km, graded Class II to III. Walls rise more than 40 m, waterfalls spill into the channel, and the area is a Ramsar wetland. Budget about FJ$440 to 460 including lunch. The minimum age is around 8. Flood levels change the river, so ask about conditions after heavy rain.
Forest Pools at Colo-i-Suva
Cold, clear water from Waisila Creek fills the pools, and entry runs about FJ$5 for an overseas adult and FJ$1 for a child. The ground gets slippery by the rope swings. Visit in daylight with company, stay on the main paths and hand over valuables if you are robbed. The park shut after heavy rain in May 2026, so confirm it is open.
Culture in Town and on the Coast
At Damodar Arts Village on Hibiscus Drive, reopened in October 2025, the show brings together meke dance and Beqa firewalking. Suva Municipal Market, at Usher Street and Rodwell Road, is a good early morning stop. Discover Fiji Tours in Navua offers river canoeing and bamboo rafting; call +679 905 0902.
Rain, Rips and Taxes
Cyclones are most likely between 1 November and 30 April, but can strike in any month. Rip currents run along reefs and river mouths, so use a licensed operator. VAT is 12.5 percent. Larger operators may add a 5 percent Tourism Services Tax from 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027.
