Dammam With Kids: Science, Rides and Beaches
Check the advice before you book (November 2026). UK FCDO guidance, updated on 27 October 2026, is to avoid all but essential travel across Saudi Arabia, and to avoid all travel within 10 km of the Yemen border. FCDO lists Dammam among the cities at heightened risk from Houthi missiles and drones aimed at airports, military bases, ports and energy facilities. The US State Department tells travellers to reconsider travel and ordered non-emergency US government personnel to leave the country on 23 October 2026. Insurance may not pay out if you travel against FCDO advice. Read the FCDO page and the US State Department page , and confirm flights, tours and opening hours shortly before you travel.
Choosing by weather
Plan a family day around the temperature. From November to March, outdoor places are comfortable all day. From June to September, daytime heat climbs past 40C with strong humidity, so go to indoor attractions in the afternoon and outdoor ones after sunset. Keep a water bottle with every child.
Indoor: Scitech and Ithra
Scitech is the Sultan bin Abdulaziz Science and Technology Center on the Al Khobar Corniche, with interactive science halls and a dome theatre. Ithra, in Dhahran, has a Children’s Museum for ages 1 to 12 that needs a ticket, and a free Energy Exhibit. Ithra is closed on Sundays and its other hours change by day, so check ithra.com or the Ithra app. For Scitech, call or check the centre’s listing before going.
Rides: Cobra Entertainment City
Cobra Entertainment City sits inside King Fahd Park in Dammam. It is an amusement park with a set of rides, including the Cobra ride. Check the height rules at the ticket desk.
Waterfront: Marjan Island and Salt Beach
Marjan Island is joined to the Dammam Corniche by an 1,800 m bridge and has play areas, cafes and parks, with a spiral tower of about 30 m. Salt Beach and Playground on the Al Khobar Corniche is another waterfront play area. Both suit the evening hours.
Half Moon Bay with children
Half Moon Bay has about 18 km of white sand, shallow water, free entry, toilets and showers. Shallow does not mean safe. A father and two daughters drowned on this coast in an area where swimming was prohibited. Choose designated swimming areas only, follow the instructions of the Border Guard, and never let a child go into the water alone. Do not assume a lifeguard is on duty. For clothing, modest swimwear is the norm on public beaches. Resort beaches such as the one at Mövenpick Beach Resort Al Khobar are more relaxed.
Eating out
Heritage Village on the Dammam Corniche serves traditional Gulf food from noon to midnight, and until 01:00 on Thursday and Friday. Visit Saudi lists entry without a ticket. Evenings from about 16:30 to midnight are the busy time for families.
