Garni and Geghard Group and Private Tours
Anyone who books a day out to Geghard is choosing between a shared minibus tour and a private car with a driver or guide. Both visit the same few places, so the real differences are price, timing and how much you can adjust on the day.
Tour options compared
| Option | Price seen | Length | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hyur Service group tour | 28 EUR per person | 5 to 6 hours | Leaves 10:00 on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays; English and Russian |
| Marketplace group tours | About 26 to 28 USD per person | Varies by operator | Departure days vary |
| Private car, half day | From 45,000 AMD per group | Half day | Entry tickets paid on top |

What the group tour includes
Hyur Service combines Garni Temple, the Symphony of the Stones, Geghard Monastery and a lavash baking class, with a stop at Charents Arch on the way. The operator’s page does not say whether entrance fees are included, so ask before paying. If the gorge road is shut, a sujukh-making class replaces the Symphony stop. Dates change by season, so look at the calendar for your travel dates.
Private tours
A tkt.am listing from July 2026 shows 45,000 AMD per group for a private tour, plus about 1,500 AMD per person at Garni Temple and 200 AMD per person at the Symphony of the Stones. A private car lets you reach Geghard early and spend more time in the churches, and it is easier to fit in a lunch stop in Garni.
Operators worth contacting
One Way Tour runs Garni and Geghard tours with lavash baking on regular days, and Yerani Travel, at yeranitravel.com , is another tour operator. Request a written price that lists what is included.
What you pay for on the day
Geghard Monastery itself costs nothing to enter, and car parking is about 200 AMD. Garni Temple tickets are about 1,500 AMD for foreign visitors and about 750 AMD for residents, students and pensioners, while children under 12 get in free. The Symphony of the Stones is about 300 AMD. Bring cash.
Choosing well
- Pick a group tour if cost matters and you are happy with a fixed schedule.
- Pick a private car if you want to be at the monastery before the buses, or want to add Sevan.
- Ask how long the stop at Geghard lasts. The rock-cut churches and the upper chamber reward an unhurried visit.
- Dress for a working church: shoulders and knees covered, voices low.
Travel advice
As of October 2026 the FCDO warns against travel in the 5 km strip along Armenia’s eastern border with Azerbaijan and on the M16/H26 road linking Ijevan and Noyemberyan. Geghard sits in Kotayk, outside that strip and off that road. The latest wording is on gov.uk .
