Latchi With Children: Beaches, Boats, Safety
Latchi offers children sea, sand and boats rather than rides and theme parks. This page is organised by what young families usually ask: where to swim, what to do on a boat, what to see on foot and what to watch out for.
Where to swim
Latchi’s own beach sits beside the harbour and is made of sand and pebbles. It has showers, toilets and sunbeds. Travel sites report lifeguards in season, so check lifeguard hours when you arrive. Boats use the harbour, so keep children close in the water.
Polis Municipal Beach is a few minutes east. It carries a Blue Flag for 2026, and VisitCyprus gives April to October as its lifeguard season.
A boat trip children can enjoy
A shared Blue Lagoon cruise lasts about 2.5 to 3 hours with a swim stop. The Nafsika II from Cyprus Mini Cruises is described by the operator as including fruit, local wine and orange squash, and the Alkion boat has a glass bottom. Reviewers say the glass shows little, so the swim stop is the highlight. Booking sites list shared trips from about EUR 15 to 25 per adult. Ask the operator about child fares, life jackets and the minimum age before you pay. Mornings are quieter than the midday rush in July and August. Strong wind can cancel sailings, so leave a spare day.
On foot with children
The Smigies picnic site, in the Akamas Forest about 2.5 km from Neo Chorio, is the easiest outing. Its short circular trail is 2.5 km and takes about an hour, and there is a picnic area at the start. The Baths of Aphrodite garden and grotto are a short drive west and free to enter. Visitors are asked not to swim or wade, so tell children to look from the edge.
Harbour time
The harbour has working fishing boats next to yachts. Several waterfront restaurants serve fish: Porto Latchi, Faros, Psaropoulos, Restomare and Yiangos and Peter. A fish meze for two or more can be shared among the family. Opening hours may be shorter in winter.
Safety points
- Midday sun in July and August is severe. Use hats, sunscreen and plenty of water.
- Wind and sea state change quickly, so follow lifeguard flags and the operator’s briefing.
- Quad and buggy tours have been involved in accidents in the Akamas, including one fatal case in 2021. A guided boat trip is the safer way to see the coast with children.
- Rental cars should stay on tarmac, as the track beyond the Baths is rough.
If children want more
There is no water park, zoo or amusement park in Latchi. The Aphrodite Waterpark and Pafos Zoo are in the Paphos area, 40 to 45 km away.
