There is no ready-made multi-day tour that begins and ends in Walvis Bay. What exists is a short stay built from the local day outings, a few overnight options with operators and a lodge, and the coast’s place in a longer drive through Namibia. The Walvis Bay and Swakopmund pair

Walvis Bay holds the sea and lagoon outings: the 09:00 catamaran cruise from the Waterfront, flamingo viewing on the lagoon shore and the guided Sandwich Harbour 4x4 trip. Swakopmund, 30 to 35 km north, holds the Living Desert tours and the Moon Landscape and Welwitschia Drive. A rental car makes this pairing easy because the coastal road is paved and the towns are about half an hour apart. Fog is common in the mornings and often burns off by midday, so keep schedules loose and put outdoor plans in the afternoon on foggy days.

Pelican Point Lodge

The lodge stands beside the lighthouse on the sandspit, about 32 km from town. It has nine to ten suites and takes guests by 4x4 or on an escorted self-drive. It is a good option if you want an overnight stay at the edge of the bay. Ask the lodge directly for its rates and how guests are collected.

Getting here and onward

The airport (WVB) has Airlink flights from Johannesburg, and one 2026 source adds Cape Town. No scheduled flights link Windhoek and Walvis Bay. By road Windhoek is roughly 390 to 400 km away, around 4 to 4.5 hours. Drive on the left. Namibia is at Level 2, exercise increased caution, on the US State Department scale because of crime and health, while the British FCDO carries no warning for any region.

Where it fits on a circuit

On the classic Namibia route, Sossusvlei and Etosha are the legs before and after the coast. Each needs nights of its own and neither is a day trip from Walvis Bay.
