Couples Escapes in Lika-Senj County

Couples come to Lika-Senj County for scenery rather than luxury. The pace is gentle: waterfalls in the morning, a quiet walk after lunch and a town stroll at dusk. Zrće Beach is a party area and does not belong on a romantic route. Prices are in euros.

Waterfalls first

Plitvice is the centrepiece. Hotel Jezero stands beside Entrance 2, so a couple staying there can start a walk while the day is young. Programme B covers 4 km in 3 to 4 hours and includes an electric-boat ride, and Veliki Slap falls 78 metres. For a quieter hour, hire a rowing boat on Lake Kozjak from the P1 dock, 15 euros per hour between 10:00 and 15:00.

Adult tickets run from 10 euros in winter to 40 euros in summer, with 23 euros in April, May and October. Staying at Hotel Jezero means later days in the park are free once you hold a first-day ticket. The park bans swimming, so plan to look rather than dip.

A quiet cove

Zavratnica Cove lies inside Velebit Nature Park, a short walk from Jablanac. The entry fee is 5 euros each. Park rules ask visitors to keep to the trails, and no lifeguards are documented, so it is a place for a walk and a view rather than a swim. The remains of the Siebel ferry lie at the start of the cove.

An evening in Senj

Olives on Pag

The Lun olive garden on northern Pag holds about 1,500 wild olives over 24 hectares. It makes an easy walk together. The Jadrolinija ferry from Prizna to Zigljen takes about 20 minutes, and strong bura sometimes cancels sailings.

Check forecasts before you drive the D8, because bura can limit traffic on the coast road.
