Romantic Weekend Ideas for Wieliczka
Wieliczka suits couples who like atmosphere more than activity. It has no beaches, lakes or cruises, and the small Serafa stream through town does not carry boats. What it does have is a chapel carved from salt, a spa hotel beside the mine and a small old town that is easy to stroll. Think of it as a one-night escape, planned around a single day of sightseeing.
A day and a night for two
Late morning: the Tourist Route. Book a guided Tourist Route slot and descend from the Daniłowicz Shaft. The walk takes 2 to 3 hours, covers about 3.5 km and includes roughly 800 steps, so wear flat shoes. The underground air holds at 17 to 18°C. Its centrepiece is the Chapel of St Kinga, 54 m long and 12 m high, with salt-crystal chandeliers and a salt relief of The Last Supper, all carved by miners between 1896 and 1963. The chapel stands at about 101 m depth. Check the mine’s events listing in case anything is scheduled there during your stay.
Lunch: underground or on the surface. Karczma Górnicza at 125 m serves Polish dishes, and Bistro Posolone sits beside the shaft.
Afternoon: the Graduation Tower. Walk through St Kinga Park to the blackthorn brine wall, where a 22.5 m viewing tower overlooks the park. Admission is 10 PLN and the tower opens in spring, summer and autumn. Brine trickles down through the branches and the wind turns it into a fine salty mist. About 30 minutes is the suggested stay.
Late afternoon: the old town. Walk to the Upper Market Square for the anamorphic painting Solny Świat, then climb to the larch Church of St Sebastian, built in 1578, to see its Art Nouveau murals by Włodzimierz Tetmajer. Entry is free outside Mass hours.
Evening: Hotel Grand Sal. This 4-star hotel at Park Kingi 7 has a spa, a sauna and a restaurant, and it is next to the mine. A visit-plus-night package is sold by the mine from about 499 to 529 PLN per person, so confirm the price when you book. See other rooms on Booking.com .
An overnight stay underground
Zdrowy Sen is a one-night programme 135 m underground in the Stajnia Gór Wschodnich chamber. Guests meet at 19:10 and return to the surface at about 07:25. The chamber has 28 places in shared boxes and a brine inhalation corner, with staff on duty, and the temperature is 13 to 14.5°C. Meals are not sold down there, and guests with certain medical conditions are excluded. It is a health-resort offer, not a private suite, and it is booked through the resort.
Rainy-day alternative
Solne Miasto on ulica Kościuszki 15 has a full-size indoor pool, four kinds of sauna and a cinema, which gives couples an easy indoor evening. See solnemiasto.eu .

Dinner in Kraków
For a wider choice of restaurants, ride the SKA train from Wieliczka Rynek-Kopalnia to Kraków Główny, about 20 to 25 minutes. The mine’s access page shows the station and the hotel location.
Tickets
Mine prices depend on route, language and season, with adult tickets from about 119 PLN. Book at bilety.kopalnia.pl , because slots can sell out in peak season.
