Guided Tours Around Swakopmund and Walvis Bay
The headline tours on this coast fall into three groups: desert tours that start in Swakopmund itself, wildlife trips that start in Walvis Bay, and a long day north to the seals. Many operators offer hotel pick-up, so ask when you reserve. This page lists the main options with the details that help you choose.

Living Desert tours
The small creatures of the dunes are the focus. Living Desert Adventures collects guests between 08:00 and 08:15, runs in English and German and ends by 12:00 to 13:00. Adults paid about N$1,000 and children aged 12 and under about N$550 at the 2025/26 rate, including Dorob fees, with cash taken on the day. Tommy’s Living Desert Tours, in listings from about 08:00 to 13:30, is a second name to look for. See the Living Desert Adventures page for its current rules.
Cruises and kayaking
On the catamaran, expect a loop of the lagoon and Pelican Point, with Heaviside’s and bottlenose dolphins reported and no guarantee of sightings. Seals and pelicans frequently approach the boat, and the correct response is to enjoy it without feeding or touching. Operators named in listings include Mola Mola Safaris and Levo Tours, and oysters and sparkling wine are served on many boats. Kayak groups run from about 2 to 12 people and seals often swim up to them uninvited, which is the moment to hold still and keep your distance. Eco Marine Kayak Tours and Pelican Point Kayaking are the operators named in this kayak listing .
Sandwich Harbour
A 25-year concession started on 1 April 2026, and the ministry has said visitors without a registered operator must be guided by the concession holder. In practice that means a guided 4x4 from Walvis Bay, about 55 km each way to the lagoon, and a route that the tide dictates. Read the Namibian Sun coverage for the background.
Cape Cross and the townships
At Cape Cross, a tour or your own car both work. The colony of Cape fur seals ranges from tens of thousands to well over 100,000, and the odour is powerful, so stay on the raised walkways. Hours are around 10:00 to 17:00, which you should check beforehand. Township tours of Mondesa and the DRC use local guides, and a typical listing quotes about US$80 for an adult.
